The coronavirus epidemic has been challenging for everyone, especially young Americans – the group most likely to have lost our jobs or been forced to take a pay cut.
If the Administration is serious about helping the country through the coronavirus pandemic, they should recognize that even with all of today’s online benefits, reliable internet access is not available to everyone. Millions of Americans, including a lot of millennials living in small towns and rural areas, do not even have broadband available in their area. Officials cannot allow this situation to continue where so many young Americans, with bright futures, are left behind because they cannot continue to work or learn as they practice social distancing amid the COVID-19 crisis.
In this unprecedented and challenging time, Federal officials should commit to making sure that everyone in the country has broadband where they work and live so that all communities are prepared to withstand the public health and economic impacts of the pandemic.
